The acquisition of Calder by PG Flow Solutions in 2015 combined both the product and project knowledge gained by our companies over many years of supply to the North Sea energy sector. This, coupled with the flexibility of having two design and build facilities, gives us a technical and commercial advantage along with increased manufacturing capacity which is proving very popular with our customers.
PG/Calder Johan Sverdrup Phase 2 scope of supply includes pump units for scale inhibitor injection, chemical injection, emulsion breaker injection, and MEG injection. All units will be supplied to Aker Solutions and Kvaerner (ASK/JV), a 50/50 joint venture, for the riser platform which will handle all exports of oil and gas from the field. Our work is well underway at both sites with the chemical injection units being designed and built by PG in Norway and Calder designing and building the MEG injection unit at our base in the UK. The division of work was based on PG’s supply of chemical injection units for Johan Sverdrup phase 1, and Calder’s experience with the variable stroke reciprocating plunger pump. PG’s Phase 1 supply was for similar applications, and the majority of the Phase 2 project team also worked on Phase 1, giving continuity of product and personnel.
The MEG injection unit currently in design in Worcester, UK, features twin variable stroke, reciprocating pumps which have been used in a number of recent offshore packages. The pump is popular for its variable flow rate, via stroke control, from 0% to 100% which eliminates the need for a VSD for flow control, thus providing significant cost saving to the customer.
There is a great synergy achieved through both companies working together. Though our core business is similar, each company has its own skills, experience, and products and combining these enables us to offer a greater depth of solutions to the complex needs of the offshore energy and marine sectors.
From our standard product range to our bespoke design and build capability, PG and Calder are better through working together.
